Who am I?
I’m one of those people that have a hard time staying in one place. Sitting still and patience have been challenging for me since childhood. I’ll busy myself to exhaustion and get so excited for a break just to spend the entire time off finding things to keep me occupied. There is one thing that keeps me in one place for significant amounts of time and that’s reading. When I’m not working, traveling, or spending time with family and my dogs I’m likely to be somewhere snuggled up lost in a good book. Some day I want to have this crazy impressive library in my house. I prefer to read physical books but even more so in order to collect them for my future library. Because i’m always traveling, for its convenience I absolutely love my Kindle Paperwhite E-reader by Amazon. (I hate to admit that most electronic books I buy on there I also own the physical copy…)
What I Do
Since you know a bit about what I’m interested in now, I guess I should let you know a little about what I actually do for a living. I’m a professional basketball player in the WNBA. I also play overseas in the winters so I pretty much play year-round with anywhere from 6-8 nonconsecutive weeks off per year– if I’m lucky. It’s a very demanding and exhausting lifestyle. Training and games take a toll on my body; I spend more time on planes and in hotels than in my own home. I miss out on most holidays, birthdays and other regular life events. With ALL that sacrifice, I wouldn’t change a thing about my life and career choice. Basketball has given me so many opportunities — traveling the world, my full scholarship to Duke, media exposure, friendships and more. It has been my rock and my gateway to network for a life after basketball.
Not thinking about retiring but I am preparing for my transition. Right now, I’m unsure what my next career will be. But I absolutely want to stay involved with basketball (and sports) but on the entertainment, public relations, marketing side for sure. Please contact me if you are or have resources for me, I’d appreciate it.
Why the Interest in Blogging?
It might seem crazy with such a busy, unpredictable lifestyle for me to add something as time-consuming as blogging to my plate. The reason is simple, this blog is my space to share all my interests, ambitions and experiences. It’s my way to channel all my spontaneity into one constant platform.
While I’m as impressed as anyone by the thousands of awesome travel and lifestyle blogs; do all of us realistically have the time and resources to compete with their aesthetics and passports? Probably not. But why should that stop us from sharing our experiences too?!
My blog is different because I’m giving you my RAW real-life travels, experiences and interests. I run this site alone with no photographers, outside resources, travel agents, partners, etc. Just me. Sometimes it’s difficult to capture everything the way I want and it’s a challenge to frequently post new content. But hey! I’m here to show you it can still be done and how.
If you are a photographer, videographer, blogger, content creator/curator and would like to collaborate in some way send me a message.
XO, Jas
