Plan a DIY Canvas Painting Day – It’s Fun & Easy, Here’s How!

DIY Home Decor

I’m a real busy body and find it hard to sit still for too long. I’m always thinking about the next place I want to visit, the next book to read, project I want to try and many other things. With my recent purchase of a new home, I’ve been hooked on DIY (Do-It-Yourself) home decor. There are so many decorations and furnishings that are simple to make. I love that you can truly customize the look of your home by putting your unique flare on the decor to fit your personal style. The first project for my DIY home decor was canvas painting. Pinterest might be the reason for my recent painting confidence. (OF COURSE IT’S THE REASON!) If you catch me on my phone I’m most likely scrolling through Pinterest and it’s also very likely that I’ve been on there for an unhealthy amount of time.

Painting at home is convenient and easy to plan, you can take as little or as much time as you’d like. We ordered almost all the materials we used from Amazon and we only needed about an hour to complete our paintings. We got some of our techniques and ideas from Pinterest (of course). There are many cool things you can do like cutting designs into the canvas, using gold foil, spray paint, fabric, photo transfer, 3D designs and so much more. Although, the whole “Sip & Stroke” wine tasting-canvas painting thing has grown to be pretty popular over the years I’ve actually never tried it— despite my love for wine and crafts. I’m happy that my first time painting was at home where I could go at my own pace and have freedom to do whatever I wanted. I kept my design pretty easy and used it as practice.

  Materials:

    – Gesso canvas (Amazon)
    – Acrylic paints (Amazon)
    – Paintbrushes (Amazon)
    – Foam brushes (Michael’s)
    – Paint palettes (Amazon)
    – Sheet(s)
    – Cup or Jar
    – Paper towels/Wet wipes

I hope I’ve inspired you to give painting a try (or at least motivated you to spend time on Pinterest.) Painting was relaxing and with the availability of multiple canvas sizes they would also make great gifts! Not quite sure what my next project will be just yet, but I’ll make sure to share my other paintings with you all as I keep practicing and get better. If you try it, let me see your masterpieces too!

Until next time…

XO,

Jas
